I took some time to choose this tablet over all the others but was swayed by the operating system, 3G, SD, and Sim functionality. I was put off by the price initially but was able to find it £100 lower than the advertized price and with a £50 payback from the manufacturer (not obvious, Amazon did not even mention it, and worth checking on-line at the Samsung web-site). On price I bought the white version and was very impressed with the finish, however if you use a cover as I do, the colour is irrelevant so go for lowest price and availability. This is the easiest IT product that I have ever set up, with no problems except for getting my head round syncing my different files, but that was down to my ignorance rather than any hardware or built in software problems. If you have used a smartphone you will have no problems - but you will be impressed with how stunning the apps look and run on a 10.1" tablet - guaranteed. I love this product (I know it's sad). Quick, easy to use, fully mobile, faster and easier than a laptop or pc, easier than a smartphone, stunning graphics and sound. The downside is that it has replaced my Kindle, which I had grown attached to for reading books and magazines but it is no wonder - it's like getting your first 32" stereo colour TV after a 14" B&W portable. I viewed the latest tablets Nexus, Kindle, Ipad and although I would not have been disappointed by any of them and some do have some slightly uprated specs I am so glad I bought the Samsung. Oh yeah! 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy, 11 Jan 2013

I bought this tablet, using a voucher and some cash I got for Christmas, and paid the rest myself.I spent a good couple of months looking at the little differences they had spec wise, and playing with the Ipad and this one in shops and showrooms. Also read HUNDREDS of reviews from lots of different sites and magazines.
As far as I can see and tell, unless you have some sort of superhuman powers, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in processor speed, and display qualities, which are the two main things that make a difference with these products.....
I have had Apple "lovers" tell me how inferior the Samsung is to the IPad, but when pressed, the things the Samsung is "rubbish" at, I haven't had any problems with??
I bought the cheaper 16Gb Wi-Fi only tab for the following reasons:
1)It has a Micro SD card slot, so I have purchased a couple of high speed 32Gb cards, for £30 giving me a total of 80Gb of storage, plus I can add to that whenever I want. (Bear in mind the 32Gb Tab is roughly £100 more??)
2)I have a samsung phone, with All You Can Eat data sim card, £15 a month, so I just use that as a wireless hotspot, hooks up within seconds, never had any problems (although Apple followers tell me its rubbish at doing this??).
The main reasons I chose the Samsung are for: e-mails, watching streaming video/tv, watching/viewing photo's, videos and or music, playing games, surfing the web, downloading free (Yes Apple users, FREE) apps, scheduling events etc (pre-loaded scheduler/diary, excellent).
All these things and more it does with no problems. I can't find anything it doesn't do, that the Ipad does? Why pay OTT for the other one?
Oh, and have been running on "power save" mode for first couple of weeks, battery last for about 3 days or more depending on what I'm using it for, and seems to perform very well, despite apparently running on reduced processor and graphics settings???
Am going to try on full power now as have a few days off work. Will see how much difference it makes.
P.S. have heard of Ipads that seem to get hot with a lot of constant use. My Tab2 doesn't even seem to get ward, even while it's in its case..... Just an observation.
Don't be a sheep, choose what you think is the better option by research and trial. I couldn't be happier with my choice. You can keep your fruit based tablet.....

I actually bought this product, which I really like, from John Lewis last November and at the time, Samsung was offering £50 cashback. All my efforts to get my money have failed so I would warn anyone dealing with Samsung to be very wary, particularly if cashback is involved. I have been ripped off and there doesn't seem to be a much I can do about it. Samsung customer support is worse than useless; the agency running the promotion does not answer its phones. I hope Samsung is pleased with the way their promotion has been run but if I were the CEO, I would have the marketing manager in my office and I would sack him, and I would kick the agency running the promtion into the long grass and ensure they never got any more work. Just Google "problems getting cashback from Samsung" and you will see just how widespread this problem is. Samsung - great products from rip-off merchants. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice tablet, 11 Jan 2013

Excellent pad, straight forward to use. I also have the apple iPad which I love and would have difficulty choosing between the two. The smaller size is just perfect for carrying around. 5.0 out of 5 stars All I expected, 11 Jan 2013

I've had Samsung phones for years, my latest being the Galaxy S2 12 months ago(will no doubt upgrade to the S3 in due course)and have loved them. This Xmas I decided to splash out on a tablet, and admit I fancied the iPad, but then sense steered me towards the galaxy tab as i knew there would be easier sync compatibility.(It is a tad cheaper too!) Also, I'm used to the Android system, and I use the Chrome browser on my laptop. The Tab is easy to figure out(works slightly different to my phone) and seems lightning fast compared to my laptop! It's taken me a bit of delving about on the internet and a steep learning curve about file formats to sort out a dvd ripper and file converter so that I can transfer some films from dvd onto it.(I am a pensioner)But managed to transfer my first film yesterday and all went well. I have added a 64G MicroSD card(as cheap as the extra you pay for the 32G model...and you end up with more storage)although for reasons only known to geeks you actually only get around 59G to use. I've also added a screen protector, which prevents most of the fingerprints, and a nice case. There are loads of android apps out there,so it's fun finding the ones that will be useful to you, and some games too, to while away those long hours in airports and waiting rooms. I've also got the Kindle app too and it works seamlessly with my Kindle(syncs to the same page I'm reading). I chose the 10" tab, as my eyesight isn't that great now, although i can see the advantages of having the lighter and more portable 7" model. For reading on the beach/by the pool on holiday, and in the garden, I will continue to use my Kindle, but indoors I can transfer to the tab, for the bigger screen. The on-screen keyboard is great, compared to using the one on my phone, although I also bought a stylus-pen(cheap)and find it more precise when typing(I'm a 1-2/finger typist anyway), but otherwise use fingers on the touchscreen.
It's a pity, that for design purposes,(and we all prefer a slim-line look, especially on a tablet)there isn't the "thickness" in the casing to accommodate usb ports, but as usb (OTG/female) cable connectors are so cheap to buy(you'll probably need one) I can't see why Samsung couldn't have included one in the box, alongside the charger and TWO tab-to-pc/usb cables(one needed for the A/C charger - but is removable anyway) Just a teeny gripe!
Another thing i've noticed is that when my tab is connected via usb to my laptop(file-sharing etc) the battery icon on the tab has a big red cross through it. Presumably this is to tell me that it is using the laptop's power rather than the battery, but there's no signal that it is charging the tab's battery while attached, like my phone does.
All in all I love this tablet! I have to admit I have never personally tried the ipad, but I love using this so much that the iPad couldn't really better it i'm sure. My son uses a Macbook pro and has just got the iPhone 5 and keeps telling me about it's features...but each one he 'extols'....I say "oh..yes my galaxy does that" !! (I'm now waiting until he gets an iPad !!....)
By the way, I chose not to pay extra(again) for the added 3G model. I learned last year, on holiday in Italy with no wifi, that I could "tether" my phone to my little (samsung)netbook and use the 3G connection...easy-peasy.
Basically it's a matter of choice if you are comparing tablets. You are an Android lover, or an Apple lover. The capabilities of the iPad and the Galaxy are much the same, difference is mainly the operating system. Then it's choosing between 7" and 10", but you've probably already decided on that if you are looking at the 10" models.
PS: In case you are wondering, (as I've seen this query cropping up regularly on the support/forum pages) if you get a model with the "ice cream sandwich" O/S system of Android installed, as mine did, ...my tab DID upgrade itself to the "jelly bean" version. It might have asked my permission first- i can't remember- but I know I didn't go looking for it.

If you are not familiar with the more advanced mobile phones and do not have some idea about how Android works this is the wrong product for you. I bought it for my wife's (80 years old) Christmas thinking that a 7" tablet was something she could carry about with her more easily than a 10". Wrong, Both she and I find the on screen keyboard too small to use the keys accurately which makes entering information very frustrating. Furthermore the user instructions which came with the tablet were so brief as to be almodt useless. They really only told how to turn the tablet on being contained in a small strip of paper about 8" by 2". So we went online and got a 123 page instruction manual. That helped but we still have not worked through it and can't get emails (apart from gmail) to work for us. So the replacement will be at least 10" and the salesperson will have to give a detailed demo and good user instructions before selling. Don't buy one like this Samsung unless (a). you have small fingers (b). you are familiar with Android. There is nothing intuative about it. 3.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE- this tablet is NOT dual voltage, 10 Jan 2013

I thought it may be useful to advise potential buyers of this tablet (P3110) that it is NOT dual voltage, and, when bought in the UK, will only operate on 220-240 volts. So if you are planning to use a tablet in the USA on holiday, for example, this is not the one for you! I don't know about other Samsung tablets but if dual voltage is important to you I would advise that you double check this feature before buying.I bought this tablet on the assumption that, in common with most modern electronic items, the tablet and its charger would be dual voltage. Alarm bells rang when I received the tablet and charged it up for the first time; there was no voltage reference on the tablet nor its charger, and the meager quick start guide was no help. I checked the full manual download from the Samsung website, and that too provided no voltage information whatsoever. Nor did the tablet specification on the Samsung website refer to voltages.
I emailed the Samsung Customer Support department and had to chase them three times by phone to get them to even respond to my query. They eventually informed me that they 'could not say for sure' whether the tablet and its charger were dual voltage , but they advised me to 'use a voltage converter if I was in the USA'!!!! Not very helpful really.
I double checked by phone with a national Samsung retailer, who were extremely helpful indeed. Their technical support team contacted Samsung for me and eventually they received a reply from Samsung advising that the tablet and its charger would indeed only operate on 220-240V.
So because I travel to the USA and would like to use my tablet over there, this unit is being returned and I will seek a 7" one that is designed to operate on dual voltage.
Shame on Samsung for not making this clear, and for being so opaque and unforthcoming in providing this basic information. I can understand dual voltage being missed out from the specification for cost purposes, for example, but not to be upfront and clear about it is inexcusable.
