I liked the look of this machine, so I decided to replace my old "TOSHIBA" computer with something a little moreup to date.
It was a shame I could not get it to work in a satifactory manner and in the end, I gave up on it and
"Amazon", who are allways great on service, agreed to take it back, so, for a while, I am back with my
reliable old "TOSHIBA".

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Chromebook - Notebook/Netbook/Tablet/Brilliant, 26 Dec 2012

Samsung Chrome book. - Just a mini review on many areas...Operating System - Silent and slick, Google chrome OS runs without lag, or loading. With Ease you can arrange your icons or apps into the dock, or leave in the incredibly slick App drawer. I like what I see. 9/10
Screen - When looking directly at the screen, it is bright, and the apps are clearly defined. Looks good, and the choice of a matte screen allows the chrome book to be seen in direct sunlight, Something not many laptops can claim... A glossy screen would increase the price, and as this is Google's ' ultra-portable take everywhere' device, a matte screen was the right choice. 7/10
Keyboard/Track pad - Both are amazing. Easily defeats my larger laptops keyboard, the keys are separated, with what can only be described as a Macbook like Keyboard. It is a pleasure to type on, and my preference over any other keyboard I have ever used.
The trackpad is also a hit with me, smooth and precise. I can easily move around web pages with one hand, and the gestures the trackpad hides are also very effective, Particularly the scroll ( Two finger swipe up/down ). There is also an uncountable amount of keyboard shortcuts, which can be viewed by holding Ctrl, alt and the ? button all at once. this includes useful things, such as screenshots. Not necessary, but nice. 10/10
Ports - The Samsung Chromebook has 1x USB 2.0 Ports,
1x USB 3.0 Ports,
1x SD Card Slot
1x HDMI Output
1x Headphone Jack ( 3.5mm)
Along with the input for power, and a slot for a Sim Card, blocked off as I own the WiFi model.
Every port is good, with the USB 3.0 providing fast transfers from a memory stick or hard drive. The 3.5mm Headphone port is a bit of a squeeze, yet clicks in when it is under pressure.
The speakers on the chrome book are also very nice, I didn't expect much from such a small device, but the result was surprisingly good. Loud and Clear, with a range of tones.
Hardware/Performance - The Samsung chromebook, even though seeming like a downgrade from the previous Intel model, doesnt dissapoint, with the new Arm A15 Chip, along with 2GB of RAM, allow the chromebook to be a pretty impressive machine. It eats web pages, HD Content on youtube and memory stick, and Light to Medium Level Gaming for breakfast. Shame that there isnt any Netflix support yet, something to do with the licensing here in the UK, but it is supposedly being fixed soon, sooner rather than later hopefully. I havent experienced any lag, freezing, buffering on youtube videos, or stutters whilst playing a HD Movie from a memory stick, and it all seems very neat and smooth. Im a definite fan. Unintetionally, the last word 'Fan' reminded me that i am currently typing on a silent machine. The chromebook has no hard drive, and the Arm chip uses very little juice. 6 Hours of constant use off one charge, and it runs silently. Eery, but nice.
Body - The Chromebooks body can only be described by the word 'Hot'. it just looks hot, and the pictures dont do it justice. It weighs practically nothing, yet the thin, light frame is very sturdy, no creaks or unwanted noises.
Overall - Looking for a device for some web browsing, email checking, playing the odd time passing game, completing school work, Youtube videos, I could go on. It seems like a complete machine. Netflix support, along with a few more crucial additions to the chrome web store would make this machine a 10/10.

If you're reading this review in the full knowledge of what a netbook/chromebook is and isn't, I'll simply say that this is a very good netbook. Dead simple to set up and get going, doesn't forget the secure networks you use, good display, first class connectivity. I'm pleased. If you should perhaps think of it as a cheap pc, think again. It does all you can do with an internet connection, but it doesn't allow you to run your favourite or essential software. Google Docs will give you a spreadsheet & wordprocessor and you'd better feel comfortable with Google in general and in particular. because it's a Google-based machine.

I have just received one of these from my wife and am mostly very impressed.the good points I really like are
*plex works! you can stream films via plex browser in full screen and works flawlessly.
*you get 100gb of storage free for 2 years on google drive.
*web browsing is very fast and the sites i like to use work great such as 4od/iplayer/youtube facebook etc
*battery life is excellent (about 6.5 hours) as is general speed such as web browsing
*you can remote desktop onto your main pc if you need other programs that are not available on the chrome book.
*there is already a linux duel boot option available for the intrepid
*kindle web works well for reading your kindle books
*no vents or fans mean the laptop runs silently.
*screen has better res than netbooks which make for better viewing
*can play 1080p vids (tried youtube) with no issues and has hdmi output
*nice form factor as its built like an ultrabook rather than a laptop and looks much more expensive than its low price.
*it has two finger scrolling like an apple magic pad
bad points
*the screen angles are not great but i have seen many laptops with the same or worse
*the remote desktop is a little slow with no sound but is in beta so hopefully will improve
*a dedicated caps key would be nice but has been replaced with a search key (you can change this in the settings back to caps)
* I use citrix xen app and this isn't currently supported, citrix reciever is though (you can access this on another pc via remote desktop which if they can speed this up will be fine)
if you are into 3d gaming and want this on a laptop then you should be looking at a high end laptop as neither this or many of the cheeper laptops are any good for this.
if you use a laptop for web browsing and Facebook as well as watching vids etc then give this a look as for this it puts many of the cheeper (sub £500) laptops to shame for speed and battery life.
just make sure you can do without installed apps before you purchase and you'll be fine.
edit: just to add that after further playing that sky drive works great on it so you can use word and excel if you don't like Google docs.

I was already a user of most Google programs, so my start up was very easy indeed. But it's different to any other PC I have ever used, be it Apple or Microsoft. But it seems to be quick and it will be more than adequate for a travel-sized computer. Looks good too. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

The chromebook Serie 3 from Samsung is simply a great product: nice battery life, enough power to cover my usage. An sugar on top (at least for me), it can be easily switch to developer mode and hacked to run a Linux distribution.
